All Hands on Deck
An outdoor timber deck landscape for the Prince George Public Library.

All Hands on Deck is a landscape proposal for the outdoor space at the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library: a 1,530 m² timber deck that turns an under-used edge of the site into a year-round civic room.
The site today
The deck sits on the library’s existing raised concrete podium, shown here in a drone photo from March 2026.

Community first
The design began with a public survey that drew 220 responses. Those answers set the programme: a gathering area, a children’s zone, quiet reading, dining, cultural display and a winter garden.

The Fernery
At the centre is the Fernery Reading Nook, a small greenhouse that keeps part of the deck usable through a northern BC winter.

Timber
Decking, seating and the greenhouse frame are detailed in wood, continuing the focus on timber construction that runs through his research.
